Compounding
Services
The vast majority of
natural and synthetic rubbers, so suitable for production of adhesives
and coatings, are, in their original state, unusable. In order to be
able to use these polymers, compounding must be carried out. Large lumps
of raw rubber must normally be milled to impart the required degree of
plasticity. Plasticity of the rubber will, particularly with natural
rubbers, affect the ultimate viscosity and adhesion of a solution at a
given solids content.
Once milled the
polymer must be granulated, to facilitate easy dissolving in solvent,
and be dusted to prevent "blocking", where the rubber, if not coated
with a suitable dusting compound, would re-coagulate into lumps once
again. Chemipat has enviable milling facilities, ensuring customers of
the ability to cope with even the largest bulk orders. Homogeneity of
compound, and freedom from contamination by hard lumps of unmilled
compound is assured by the facility to Barwell semi-finished compound,
prior to granulation.
Wet-mixing of
Chemipat or customer produced compound, involves converting the polymer
compound into solution. This is performed to strict tolerances in our
well-equipped wet-mixing facility. All stages of the production process
are certified to ISO EN 9002, and the customer can be assured of quality
product delivered on time, every time.
